Altered Book

For ages I've wanted to alter a book. I love books, especially old ones, but I would never destroy an old book. So I looked through the books at my local Hospice shop and found this mass produced novel; it was perfect for the project I had in mind.

I've used the hollow/secret book technique and built an album inside it. The album is a mini which meant I didn't have to cut a large hole through all the layers of the paper, just one deep enough for the album to fit inside.

I love how this altered book turned out. Can't wait to add photo's to it now.

Supplies (all from Scottie Crafts):

  • Pink Paislee Butterfly Garden collection (again)
  • Prima flowers and lace
  • Scrapware's Iron Gate, Lamp Post and Flourish
  • Zva Creative Leaves
  • Spellbinders Rose Creations, Labels Seventeen and Labels One
  • Bronze findings
  • Metallic Rub-ons
  • Ranger Crackle Paint - Picket Fence
  • And of course a few other goodies from my stash.

Will's Party Animal Album

Friends of ours Antony and Renate have just had their first baby, a wee boy named Will. So I thought that the Kaisercraft Party Animals range would make a lovely fun baby album. No flip or pocket pages in this one, just lot's of pages where Will will be the star.

This was so much fun to make. You should try one.

Fundraising Albums

I'm a member of our local Hospice Women's Fundraising Committee and made these two albums to include in a Silent Auction at one of our fundraising events. I was thrilled when the Silent Auction closed and I saw that both albums had sold for $60 each. It's not a huge amount to add to our fundraising total, but every little bit helps.

This first album was made using the beautiful Bo Bunny Gabrielle collection,

This second album was made using Pink Paislee's Butterfly Garden. I handmade the flowers on the cover using the gorgeous Spellbinders Rose Creations die. They are so easy to make; you should give it ac try.

Butterfly Garden Mini Album

I love mini albums. They are quick and easy to create and make wonderful gifts. I first got started on mini albums after watching a video of the incredibly talented Laura Denison creating mini pocket albums. If you love mini albums and don't follow her, you should. :-)

I made this album as a birthday gift for my sister-in-law Kaye. I used the beautiful Pink Paislee Butterfly Garden collection, trinkets, and flowers that I got from Scottie Crafts.

The album contains family photo's and were taken at Shakespear Park in February when Andy and I renewed our wedding vows. It was a great excuse to celebrate our marriage with our family and friends and for capturing family photos.

The flowers are Prima and Kaisercraft, the leaves Prima and the pearl swirl are from Kaisercraft.

These gorgeous trinkets and toggle closure were all from Scottie Crafts.
There are three pocket pages in this album. This first pocket holds Kaye's mini birthday card, you can just see the lace which edges the card, popping out from the envelope.
I love tags and use them a lot for journalling and embellishing pages.
This second pocket page holds a folded card with photo's on all for sides. I've attached a tiny butterfly punched shape to be used to pull the card out from the pocket.
A mini journalling tag popping out from a border punched pocket.
And another tag inside a punch border pocket and a tiny view of the birthday card.

I hope this mini album inspires you to create one. Just be careful, because once you've made one you'll want to make another and another. They are very addictive. :-)
